RPAS activities requiring prior DronePort OPS manager approval:

  • All outdoor activities for reservation and flying
  • Indoor activities for reservation only

RPAS Operator prerequisites:

  • Familiar with the contents of the Royal Decree on Drones, dated 10 April 2016, for the exploitation of RPAS
  • Disposing of BCAA required admissions, documents, certificates and/or licences.(See: BCAA Requirements)
  • Before starting outdoor flying activities: mandatory briefing by DAC
  1. RPAS with registration number. For RPA in a test flights environment without certification or homologation certificate, a BCAA approved DronePort template can be used to obtain a valid BCAA registration number (see Annex M).
  2. RPAS certification is required for all class 1A operations
  3. Determination of class 1A or 1B flight execution should be based on the items contained in the Annex 3 of the RD Drones from 16 apr 2016
  4. Belgian RPA-pilot license corresponding the RPAS class and type of flight (instruction, examination)
  5. RPA-pilots with a foreign country pilot license require a supervisor with an adequate Belgian RPA-pilot license
  6. Pilot medical certificate
  7. Valid and appropriate insurance certificate depending on specific commercial or non-commercial RPAS activity
  8. NOTAM requirement in accordance with BE AIP
  9. Simultaneous manned and unmanned operations allowed in Sint-Truiden ATZ, under certain conditions, except in EBR-64.
  10. Flying altitudes within the areas of the DronePort zone as indicated in annex L. Flight altitudes within the DronePort areas have no impact on the determination of these class of RPA flight (1 or 2), as the entire airspace of the respective areas, as mentioned in the BE AIP Part I – ENR 5.1 has been approved by BCAA as RPA flight-zone.

Flights:

  1. All flights need an approval by LRA AC. Flight approval can only be obtained through the introduction of a flight request on the LRA-RPA flight request platform.
  2. BCAA approval for all BVLOS flights
  3. DronePort approval by the LRA AC for all EVLOS, nightflights, post- and freight transport and towing, spraying, dropping flights based on risk analysis submitted by the drone operator
  4. Nightflying is allowed by BCAA in areas of the DronePort zone as indicated in annex L
  5. EVLOS is allowed by BCAA in areas of the DronePort zone. A larger number of observers (above 2), but limited to a maximum number of 10, may be provided to ensure that visual contact is always provided.
  6. Post- and freight transport in areas of the DronePort zone as indicated in annex L
  7. Towing, spraying and dropping in areas of the DronePort zone as indicated in annex L
  8. RPA pilots should take into consideration the RPA performance and characteristics to establish an inner border buffer zone to prevent zone border crossing, in order to establish separation with other airspace users. For EBR-64 an inner buffer zone of minimum 100 ft vertical and minimum 50 meter horizontal from the edge of the area is mandatory.
